Hip Hop artist, film actor and children's author Common, whose seven hugely acclaimed albums have established the Chicago native as one of the most revered, creative and consistent artists in the game, releases brand new eagerly awaited album Universal Mind Control through Universal Records. Universal Mind Control is the follow-up to last year's no.1 album Finding Forever. The majority of the album was produced by The Neptunes and Pharrel Williams is also the featured rapper on the track Announcement. Other featured collaborators on the album include Santogold, Martina Topley-Bird, Cee-Lo, Kanye West and Chester French.
Common, who in the last year has reeled off appearances in the hit movies Smokin' Aces, American Gangster and most recently Wanted alongside Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and James McAvoy, is currently filming the fourth installment of the Terminator movie, Salvation The Future Begins. Another movie on Common's acting CV, The Nightwatch Man, starring Forrest Whitaker and Keanu Reeves, is due for release shortly.
Common rose to prominence as one of hip-hop's most poetic and respected lyricists having recorded six albums: Can I Borrow a Dollar?, Resurrection, One Day It'll All Make Sense, Like Water For Chocolate, and Electric Circus. In 2004, he hooked up with fellow Chicago native Kanye West to produce the platinum selling BE which went on to garner four Grammy Award nominations. Last year's Finding Forever entered the Billboard chart at no. 1 and proved beyond doubt that the artist formerly known as Common Sense, can take his rightful place at the top table when hip hop's finest get together. In addition to the music, acting and writing skills, Common has started The Common Ground Foundation, an organization dedicated to utilizing the cultural relevance of Hip-Hop to serve as an advocate for justice, education, to fight poverty, and to increase health awareness among youth in underserved communities throughout the United States.
